Baby blues

Many women experience the baby blues after giving birth, which includes sudden bouts of crying, irritability, anxiety, and trouble sleeping. About 50-80% of all new mothers get the baby blues. The baby blues tends to start three to ten days after giving birth and usually goes away on its own. In some cases, the baby blues last longer. In about one in ten mothers, the baby blues don’t go away. You may feel hopeless, out of control, or overly emotional.

You may also feel worthless, out of touch, and alone, which in turn can trigger feelings of guilt and make it hard to enjoy things you used to love. The worst part is that you may no longer enjoy caring for your baby. You may think no one will understand how you’re feeling and choose to keep those feelings to yourself.

But it’s extremely important to talk to someone about it and ask for help. If you feel like you just can't shake the baby blues, make an appointment with your GP. There's a lot they can do to help!
